Hand-built in limited numbers and lined with luxurious Burl walnut wood trim and leather accents, the flagship Mercedes Benz for 1970 was still the W111 and W112 series cars. In 1968 the full-size Mercedes Benz “S Klasse” could be ordered with the new 2.8 litre straight six or the all-new more powerful 3.5 litre V8, both using the patented Bosch fuel injection. The two door coupes and convertibles were truly deserving of the three-pointed star. They offered discerning buyers’ exclusivity since they were built in limited numbers and were generally special ordered.

This highly desirable, two-owner example from 1970 is now offered from many years of single ownership with clearly evidenced regular maintenance and proper storage. The interior and seating are in very nice original condition, fitted with column shift automatic, power windows, air conditioning, Becker radio and a center armrest console. It has received just one repaint approximately a few years ago, and the handsome light blue finish is only enhanced by dark blue upholstery and dark blue convertible top and boot. Presented with just over 47,600 miles, this fine example rides on a new set of radial tires and with the correct spare tire, tool roll and jack. Always serviced at Mercedes Benz dealerships, it is documented with owner’s manual, records, receipts since new including the original window sticker. This cherished Blue Mercedes Cabriolet is both elegant and practical, and remains an automotive icon of the late-20th century
