At the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 Jaguar surprised the world with the E-type. In 1965 the 4.2-litre version arrived boasting a more user-friendly gearbox with synchromesh on 1st gear alongside the bigger, torquier engine. Proposed changes in United States automobile legislation would eventually result in the revised Series 2 announced in October 1968, though modifications began to be phased in during 1967. Over time experience and a worldwide market dictated many changes in the sublimely beautiful E-type Jaguar, culminating in 1968 with the introduction of the Series II. The evolution of the E-type meant buyers of the Series II got a much better, more adaptable, comfortable and reliable Jaguar, attributes that complemented its already well-established reputation for superior performance, road holding, ride and appearance.
Externally the Series 2 was readily identifiable by its larger sidelights, raised bumpers, deleted headlight covers, twin reversing lights, and square rear number plate, while the interior was revised with rocker-type dashboard switches, new seats, and a collapsible steering column. Beneath the skin, Ad-West power steering, Girling brake calipers, and an up-rated radiator were among the many Series 2 improvements. The attributes that made the Series II E-type so successful are abundantly evident in this stunning 1969 Fixed Head Coupe.
This 2-seat E-Type Fixedhead Coupe (FHC) is finished in British Racing green over black leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter double-overhead cam inline-six paired with a four-speed fully synchronized manual transmission and fully independent rear axles. Equipment includes knock-off chrome wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a louvered clamshell bonnet, full instrumentation and AM/FM RADIO.
Jack, hammer, and knock off included.
Previously restored and owned for 42 years by a New Jersey sports car collector.
In 2022 the Jaguar underwent a service and performance upgrades all done by recognized Jaguar E-Type and racing specialists Predator Performance of St Petersburg Florida. Upgrades include an Aluminum radiator, E-Type Series I intake manifold with polished triple carburetors, custom built headers, new stainless steel exhaust, Series I Valve covers, and chrome knock off centers added. Further recent maintenance includes new front shock absorbers, new instrument rocker switches, and tune-up was also done at this time. Four brand new Vredestein tires were installed January 2023.
This well maintained especially attractive E-Type Coupe is ready for spirited driving or touring.
