Cadillac touted its 1936 lineup as the “Royal Family of Motordom,” and this Black on Black Series 75 convertible sedan was the 58th example of its kind created to drive into the exclusive kingdom. The rakish Cadillac underwent a restoration from its refined V-8 powertrain and chassis out to its Fleetwood-crafted body that was completed in the 1970s. The new 1936 V-8 engine hit the trifecta of performance, economy and reliability with innovative engineering that powered Cadillac cars through 1949. The Series 75 boasted a 346 CI L-head V-8 good for 135 HP with a downdraft carburetor, hydraulic valve silencers and exhaust-vented crankcase gas system for a more refined motoring experience. The synchromesh 3-speed manual transmission transferred power to the rear wheels through a semi-floating rear axle. Knee-action independent front suspension, center-point steering, dual stabilizers and standard 4-wheel hydraulic brakes worked together for the competent road handling and uncompromising comfort expected of a Cadillac. The sleek 75-series convertible sedan body is mounted on a 138-inch wheelbase frame and features rounded and more streamlined overall design that moved to the forefront of Cadillac styling at the hands of Harley Earl as the 1930s unfolded. Chrome accessories and trim accent the sedan design from its signature hood ornament and convex vee grille out to the bumper guards. Factory-issue bullet-style headlamps are joined by a period-correct set of aftermarket Trippe auxiliary driving lights. Lowering the tan cloth convertible top reveals a luxurious five-passenger interior loaded with Art Deco elegance from the banjo-style steering wheel to sweeping dash outfitted with large-face speedometer and clock. The Cadillac Series 75 convertible rides on dressed factory steel disc wheels and whitewall tires with dual matching side-mount spares and optional covers for classic touring style and uninterrupted open-top motoring.
