A one-year-only model, the glass-roof hardtop in the Crestline series, which represented the top of Ford’s trim levels for 1954. Also new, the Crestline Skyliner also helped introduce the new Y-block OHV V-8, which replaced the venerable flathead V-8 beginning with that model year.
“Skyliner… most distinctive car under the sun,” proclaimed some of Ford’s marketing materials for the 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner. “It’s another Ford first in styling,” advertising continued; “Side windows roll down and out of sight to complete this wide open feeling. And you can shut out the sun in a wink with easy-sliding roof curtains.” The Crestline Skyliner was one of the top-of-the-line models issued by Ford in 1954, offering buyers a truly unique experience in driving under an acrylic green-tinted front roof section providing an open feel without the intrusive wind. Built only for one year, 13,144 Crestline Skyliners were sold in 1954, before being replaced by the Crown Victoria Skyliner in 1955
